H.R Giger - The baby machine
H.R Giger - The baby machine
This work relates to many concerns regarding society and reproduction, potentially speaking about population.
The name of the image itself separates the natural/human process of childbirth and relates it with a machine, making the process seem impersonal.
The machine used (a gun) juxtaposes the associations with birth and reproduction. The gun, a weapon, a taker of life as appose to a life giver.
In the image, there is a feeling of birth being depicted as a form of pain, or suffering.
The picture shows one chamber, already loaded - with others ready and waiting to replace the one previous.
In a way, birth is a bio-mechanical process, but one by nature, perhaps this could be the main message of the image?
There is potential to incorporate this, or similar images into my own photographs, as a rough example the workings of the gun could be merged onto the body of a woman (a photograph i would take)
as to give an almost x-ray like quality!!!
