plans and ideas - springboard

Initially, I have two main ideas which i wish to explore for this assignment;

1 - I want to look at beautification and the way in which we humans integrate different forms of technologies into our everyday lives in order to enhance our physical appearance and attraction of others.
I have noticed a recent "trend" on twitter which is labeled

" What is a Trend?Twitter Trends are automatically generated by an algorithm that attempts to identify topics that are being talked about more right now than they were previously. The Trends list is designed to help people discover the 'most breaking' breaking news from across the world, in real-time. The Trends list captures the hottest emerging topics, not just what’s most popular. Put another way, Twitter favors novelty over popularity."
                                                         (http://blog.twitter.com/2010/12/to-trend-or-not-to-trend.html)

"The new trend: Take a picture of yourself on a sun-bed, and pull the 'too hot in here' face!"
This has given me inspiration in regards to further developing my initial idea of beautification via technologies.
Not only does it have a link to social networking and the internet - which too is a huge development in modern technology - but it is also relevant right now, it is a current theme on the web and people are uploading pictures of themselves on sun beds daily.
It's also potentially interesting in regards to the link between the internet and the power it has, controlling the way people think they should look - what is deemed attractive.

2 - I am interested in exploring domestic roles, and roles associated with different genders.
For example we associate women with roles around the home such as cooking and cleaning, "the baby machine" (like in H.R Giger's work - All of his work could be very influential for this assignment)
Whereas tasks such as DIY, car maintenance ECT we would associate with men.
I will explore the different tasks assumed to be gender related and think about ways i could incorporate this in my own images.

I plan to carry out extensive research, books, online articles and looking at photographs will help me decide which route i continue to develop upon. In addition i hope the group feedback sessions will help me establish which idea is strongest and most appropriate in response to the brief.
