Peter Kennard - @earth

"@earth is a photo-essay in seven chapters, combining new works, made together with Tarek Salhany, with iconic images from throughout Kennard's 40-year career.
"Peter Kennard was born in London in 1949. He is senior tutor in photography at the Royal College of Art and his work is in many major collections, including Tate, the V&A and the Imperial War Museum. His work has been published in numerous publications including The Guardian, The Observer, Sunday Times, The Telegraph, The Independent, The Scotsman, New Statesman and Time Magazine."

The images are shocking and make a powerful statement about current social crisis and injustice. They challenge power structure and really open questions about the current state of the world. The photomontage's are a combination to two or more images which when put together stimulate shocking messages. The images are striking, they evoke a lot of emotion and could be seen as the representation of public opinion of war. The image combinations could be seen as an uncanny juxtaposition. They highlight the moral wrongs of the world, by utilising and manipulating existing/familiar imagery he creates his own dystopian visions of today.

He is most famous for his work throughout the 80's, where he created montages speaking about the campaign for nuclear disarmament (CND)

"The point of my work is to use easily recognisable iconic images, but to render them unacceptable. To break down the image of the all-powerful missile, in order to represent the power of the millions of people who are actually trying to break them. After breaking them, to show new possibilities emerging in the cracks and splintered fragments of the old reality."
